REPLY FROM AMAA CHAIRMAN IN RESPONSE TO MARY LUCY’S MESSAGE TO FORUM MEMBERS
Supa naleng. Thank you very much for that worthy contribution. Association of Maa Abroad/AMAA rallies Lmaa in diaspora to get together and this quest for unity speaks to the need for one people, one voice in dealing with such and more challenges we all face and importantly drive the maa community agenda: Waiting on others to do so is not only naive but actually suicidal! What can stop those well placed in government drive a bipartisan interest if strategic to their self interest? A look at the police outfit in Kenya and the structure of power gives any one an unfortunate reason for the high handedness that results in the repeat atrocities in Samburu East, inter tribal cattle rustling not withstanding. Cultural Survival continues to write to the two principals to no avail and people continue to suffer. The internal security minister closes his eyes to these sad and painful happenings to a minority group, in wonder as to whether he cares for a constituency looking to him as a team player for Lmaa leadership! Local leaders must be help responsible here and called to account in the fullness of time. If they are not seen going to or petitioning state house or the PM’s office on an aspect of death to their people, what business can they claim to continue holding onto positions meant and tasked for the defense of people and their properties.
My sister, thank you again for voicing your concern and add to a a rising voice in support of the suffering hapless people. We however wish to encourage you get in touch for an integration of gains so far made for the common good. If abroad, get in touch with us at <meelimaa@yahoo.com> and if in the US we should meet to have you attend AMAA annual conferences where we share experiences, compare notes and pray in fellowship on the way forward. We are geared towards being visionary and strong as a people while joining hands with all our Kenyan and regional brethren for a stronger, cohesive, peaceful and prosperous nation and E. A. C. region. We believe in a brotherhood borne of understanding, tolerance and mutual respect. Non should be deemed and or treated better than the other by an authority we all pay homage, pay taxes to and owe allegiance: A national security apparatus looses meaning, value and integrity playing partisanship from a national pedestal and giving to some an illegitimate advantage as opposed to a level playing ground in the arena of life: Thinking otherwise is naive and unacceptable. The entire leadership must know and reflect that Somalia did not happen by mistake; it is a close reminder of what a failed national leadership can do to an otherwise great nation. To build is very, very hard where as to destroy is as ease as corruptly eating a piece of cake. And if Katakwa and the Mt. Elgon atrocities are in question at the ICC, as to what and how local issues or disputes why can we not learn that the way of peaceful resolution to disputes will go a long way in entrenching peaceful coexistence among neighboring communities than seeing government agents misuse themselves in fighting for selfish interest against people also looking to them for protection like every one else. The government position must be neutral to credibly help in dispute resolutions and conflict mitigation in Samburu East or anywhere else.
