Samburu conflict.

There is nothing devastating like being attacked from all corners – right left and centre – 360 degrees! That is the plight of recent situation of Samburu people – all Samburu Districts – from Losesia to Losuuk, from Amaya to Kom from Rumuruti to Soito eilkokoyo from Songa to Kipsing to every other Samburu settlement. Enemy’s threat is imminent every hour every minute while the central government is watching from a distance.
Enemies are spread all over the circumference. Boran on the east, Somali on the North East, Pokots on the West and Turkana on the North West while in South in Laikipia, Kikuyu government is pressuring them upwards. Situation which has forced community to defend itself by whichever means.
Let me take you back to 2006 when thousands if not all Samburu young men (Elmuran) were disarmed through a systematic plan mounted by Laikipia government agents (Pokots, Kikuyu and Borana) and ratified by the powerful central government. The purported peace committee was tricked that illegal guns will be replaced by KPRs, writing “Prior to the disarmament, the committee went round samburu districts and convinced their kinsmen to surrender the illicit arms for the government will henceforth provide them with security by increasing the number of Kenya Police Reservists (KPRs) among other things – like police post. It is believed that this was death wish signed by Samburu and it has proved disastrous day after day. The enemy seems not even satisfied or thinking of stopping even after Naibor massacre – the enemy continues marauding killing mercilessly forcing samburu out of their motherland, making samburu refugees in their own land.
Now remember consensus-building and tricky dialogues played a great role in the voluntary surrender of the illicit arms. All those preachers of peace have disappeared into thin air. Our toothless leaders just looked from far like “Layok botoro” (helpless person) some of them Assistant ministers don’t seem equal their partners with substantive powers. The fact remains Samburu enemies remained fully armed and gradually increasing with lamei (drought) and poverty added to the list. All this preceding plus grave mistakes gave dangerous Pokots an obvious leeway for attacks.
The media with all its shrewdness quickly bought the idea that Samburu are rebels “waasi” according to some useless nation TV footage or KTN special report with our “professional” Mohamed Ali:
Thinking what Hon. Kuti might be saying watching Samburus castigated and called dreadful names could just prove a looming danger ahead. Fortunately I hope we have learned from our mistakes and get our shit together from the rotten top. The government cannot provide possible enough security to protect lives and property of Samburu pastoralist. Therefore the number of KPRs should be increased substantially and should be trained. The Government should also disarm Borana and Pokots NOW!!!
