ANOTHER NOBEL PEACE PRIZE TO OUR MOTHERLAND.
Kenyans all over the world are delightfully celebrating yet another Nobel Peace Prize meant to recognize the work of our countrymen. As Kenyans, we cannot be happier J.
Last time, the peace prize was awarded to a long time environmental conservative who knew better than everybody, that our destiny and that of the wild wildlife is by nature destined together and that we all have a fundamental need to take care of our only globe so that we can all live in harmony.
Professor Maathai was awarded the prize in 2004, for her outstanding work on sustainable development, democracy and peace, making her the first African Woman, and the first environmentalist to win the prize. The prize was for the work she has done since early 1970. We are still proud when we see her because we know she elevated the name of our people and the country we love so much to a higher level. Wangari Maathai convayed her gratitude to Obama in through her greenbelt movement. (Read more)
Today, however, another Kenyan is named and prized not for the contribution he’s made (opinion) to making the world better and peaceful, but for creating a global atmosphere to achieving global justice and equality. He’s being awarded for the things he’s going to do from now on to based on the framework of his political aspiration ever since he became Senator of Illinois and President of the USA. Obama records shows that he is a believer of a peaceful and and equal diplomacy among nations, regions, continents and between all species on this globe.
President Barack Obama has been in office for less than a year and if he was a baby, he would still be learning to crawl and if he’s fast enough, he should be staggering along walls trying to crack walking and balance codes.
Many would argue that he still does not deserve to be prized. But still, we all know what kind of a potential for a better world Barack is and so many would concur that the prize is for the things he will do and not for the contribution he has made already.
It’s too early for him. Maybe next year would have shown what kind of a achievement he’s made. Barack Obama is the president of the mightiest nation on earth with the power to stop global wars through diplomacy.
America has the power to reorganize the world order and create a better understanding between nations by avoiding pre-emptive wars and promoting justice and reconciliation through friendly policies. Barack Obama has promised exactly that and he is recognized to be working on exactly that promise. The work is not easy because the powers are shared among many actors hence the president has to convince them all to realize the necessity for a friendly and sustainable peaceful world.
The Norwegian peace committee is aware of this and so they decided to honour Obama. Personally, I feel a sense of fairness and a need to say that President Barack Obama, having been able to organize the grass root movement to vote for CHANGE, indeed, he has shown the likelihood of promoting peace in the world.
He promotes America’s peaceful side and denounces domination and oppression committed by the super power on other nations.
He’s taking responsibility to liaise with the Muslim worlds and has established a higher level diplomacy with Russia and Asian world. Obama is elevating the African continent through promoting good governance and democracy.
America may not have been an altruist democracy, but we can all smile and agree that the Laureate deserves to be motivated, not only for being the first Afro-American to convince the America to elect the first black president, but for his on-going struggle to confer the greatest benefit on mankind.
Obama has all along called for a global response on the global problems.
Is there anybody who has been awarded the Nobel Prize two times? What is the likelihood of Obama being the first one to win the prize two times?
Saidimu Ole Ngais.
